Some places stop you in your tracks. The Grand Canyon is one of them — vast, ancient, and utterly humbling. No photograph quite prepares you for the scale of it, the silence of it, the way it makes you feel both very small and very alive.
On a road trip from Los Angeles to San Francisco, with a detour through the canyon, the journey back to the car park, a rainstorm rolling in over a section of the canyon. The light shifted, the colours deepened, and the whole landscape took on a drama that was impossible to look away from. The photos taken in that moment sat quietly until inspiration struck — and this painting is the result.
Painted in acrylic on canvas board, it captures the mood and movement of that rainstorm — the brooding sky, the layered rock, the sense of something immense and elemental unfolding. Presented in a navy frame, it makes a bold and striking statement on any wall.
