Art Delivery & Care

Packing Your Artwork

Every piece leaving Breda O'Flaherty Studio is packed with care to arrive in the same condition it left the studio. Original paintings and framed works are wrapped in acid-free tissue, cushioned with foam corners, and boxed in double-walled cardboard sized to the piece. Prints are dispatched flat in a padded envelope if unframed. All framed pieces will be wrapped in bubble wrap and cardboard. Fragile labels are applied to all packages.

Transit Protection

All orders are insured in transit. In the unlikely event that your artwork is lost or damaged during shipping, please follow the steps in the damage reporting section below so we can resolve the situation promptly.

Colour Accuracy

Breda works hard to photograph each piece under consistent, neutral lighting to give the most faithful digital representation possible. That said, colour rendering varies between screens, and originals painted in oils or pastels carry a depth and texture that no photograph can fully capture. If you have specific colour concerns before purchasing, please get in touch — we're happy to share additional images or video in natural light.

Unpacking Your Artwork

When your parcel arrives, please take a moment to inspect the outer packaging before signing for delivery. If the box shows obvious damage, note this with the courier before accepting it. Open carefully — a craft knife or scissors along the tape only, avoiding pressure on the artwork inside.

Reporting Damage

If your artwork arrives damaged, please:

  1. Photograph the outer packaging before opening, and the artwork immediately after unpacking.
  2. Keep all original packaging materials — the courier or insurer may need to inspect them.
  3. Contact us within 48 hours of delivery with your order number and photos.

We will work with you and the insurer to find the best resolution as quickly as possible.

Caring for Your Original Painting

Original oil and pastel works are delicate and benefit from a little mindful placement:

  • Light: Avoid direct sunlight or strong UV light, which can fade pigments over time. A position with indirect natural light or LED gallery lighting is ideal.
  • Humidity & temperature: Avoid hanging near radiators, fireplaces, or in rooms with high humidity fluctuations (such as bathrooms or steamy kitchens).
  • Cleaning: Do not attempt to clean the painted surface. Dust the frame gently with a soft, dry cloth. For any restoration concerns, please consult a professional conservator.
  • Handling: Hold canvases by the frame, not the painted surface. Pastel works under glass should be kept glazed.

Caring for Your Print

  • Framing: For unframed prints, we recommend framing behind UV-protective glass or acrylic as soon as possible to preserve colour and prevent damage.
  • Light: As with originals, avoid prolonged direct sunlight.
  • Storage: If storing an unframed print, keep it flat in an acid-free sleeve or folder away from moisture.
