How to decorate your home around a painting.

How to decorate a room around a painting.

Have you ever walked into a paint shop and walked back out in terror, due to the array of colours out there? Most people back away from colour due to uncertainty around what would suit their space. Others look for inspiration in design magazines and follow the latest trends.. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that! But what if your space was representative of YOU.

Here are a few tips:

1. Look around your home and see what you've already bought. Look at the colours there. This will give you an idea about the colours you like.

2. Even your clothes can be a source of Inspiration. Try bunching different colours together to see if you like the combination. After all, you bought them because you liked them.

3. Your favourite piece of art, can be a great inspiration for choosing a colour scheme that is personal to you. To give you a idea, I've put together colour schemes based on three of my paintings.

When people buy paintings they tend to think that a white wall will enhance it. However, most art galleries will have a lot of colour on their walls..

The Boho Living room

In the image above, I chose to create a Boho style living room using inspiration from a pastel drawing I did of a Derelict cottage with a red door. The walls would be kept neutral using a very soft dusty pink. The sofa and chair are not matching but compliment each other and are chosen from hints of colour in the drawing. The area rug draws the colour scheme to the floor.

The Contemporary dining room.

The next image is based on choosing colours my Abstract 1 A2 print, to create a stylish contemporary dining room.

I've kept this room neutral with an accent wall of Navy, which is pulled from a colour in the painting. However, to ensure that this painting pops, keep it on a light grey or white wall. Colour has also been introduced using the dining chairs which are in a soft velvet Teal. These extenuate the jewel colours in this beautiful piece of art.

The Traditional room

The third mood board is based on a painting of a parrot. Keeping the design traditional and timeless. For the walls I chose a dark charcoal grey similar to that in the background of the painting. This will be set off with white skirting board and architraves.

Different greys work well together, therefore, I chose a light grey sofa. However, to add warmth I added in a rust chair and a deep toned wooden side table. The TV Unit is in a deep charcoal, which can add depth to the room. You could also use a dark wood for this too. I have a white frame and mount on this painting, which will make it stand out against the dark walls.
